For more than 70 years, Victa has been part of the Australian backyard. From the first rotary mower built in a Melbourne shed to the full range of reliable mowers and garden tools we offer today, our story has always been about one thing: making lawn care easier, better, and more enjoyable for everyday Australians.
Our Story
In 1952, Melbourne engineer Mervyn Victor Richardson invented a new kind of lawn mower. Frustrated by the slow, heavy machines of the time, he designed a rotary mower specifically for Australian conditions — tougher grass, hotter summers, and bigger backyards. That invention became Victa.
What started as one man’s solution quickly became a household name. By the late 1950s Victa was producing tens of thousands of mowers a year. Generations of Australians grew up with the familiar green and yellow machines in the shed, the sound of a Victa starting on a Saturday morning, and the pride of a clean-cut lawn.
Over the decades we expanded from push mowers into self-propelled models, ride-ons, battery-powered tools, and professional-grade equipment. Through every change, the core idea stayed the same: build tough, reliable machines that work hard in real Australian conditions.
In 2025, Victa returned home. After years under international ownership, the brand is once again proudly Australian-owned and operated by Roy Gripske & Sons through its Powerup Lawncare Products division. We’re back where we belong — in Australian hands, focused on Australian lawns.
